Summer time in Niseko, just writing that phrase and thinking about it is relaxing – being here and enjoying it is unsurprisingly on another level.

EdVenture Niseko Summer Camp is back again for the 2014 summer, and it looks to be even bigger and better than the already feature packed summer camps that took place here in the past.

It is a summer camp, but not quite the same as the North American summer camps that ship their children away to some far off destination for several weeks so parents can have some peace and quiet. Children here still spend the day being educated in a fun way about nature and the outdoors, but they go back and spend the evening with parents. In fact, parents are even invited to participate alongside their children in some of the events.

There is a whole heap of things happening in the five-day camps, from milking cows, to picking fresh vegetables (and making pizza with their bounty), to riding horses, to fishing, learning about Japanese culture (dancing and music), making bread, and just playing and enjoying the outdoors. They even get to spend one night camping in a tent.

The camps are conducted in English and would be an amazing experience for city slicker children who don’t get the opportunity to enjoy the quiet of country life, and to gain a sense of appreciation for nature and where food comes from.

It is being organised in conjunction with The Chalets at Country Resort and The Orchards Niseko, with events and workshops taking place inside the newly constructed community space within The Orchards welcome centre. Country Resort and The Orchards are also offering accommodation packages so the whole family can unwind in the beauty that is summer in Niseko.

There are three camps planned, the first is July 7-11, the second is July 14-18 and the third and final is July 21-25. Each camp has different activities planned, so it is possible for children to attend more than one. It costs ¥70,000 per child, and covers activity fees for all the activities, transportation between The Orchards and off-site activity locations, art/cooking materials, sport/science equipment, tents, refreshments and a welcome barbeque for the whole family. The price also includes one accompanying adult to join in the morning activities.
