Hirafu’s 50th Anniversary Present

Today is Niseko Mt. Resort Grand Hirafu’s 50th Anniversary… We arrived around 9.30am and thought everything would already be tracked out. But what we found was a load of guys dressed as Major Theodore von Lerch (the Austrian who introduced skiing to Niseko in 1912) that were getting towed up the Boyo ski run by ski patrol on a snowmobile then cruising down again.

However, we had been given the best present ever, 20cm of snow fall on the village with the knowledge that there must be more up top. We hit one of our favourite areas and managed to get 12 runs in with fresh tracks every time!

It was full of waist deep powder, face shots, mushrooms and only a little sasa, this is how it looked.

This is why we love Niseko.
