After the initial dump of snow earlier in the month Niseko has been in the grip of some pretty average weather. Warm temperatures, heavy rain and strong winds. Amongst the predominately foul weather there has been a few beautiful clear warm days…..
We received another top up of wet snow overnight on the 21st but as dawn broke the snow quickly turned to rain.
Grand Hirafu’s opening was postponed on the 23rd with the lifts remaining stationary but the annual opening ceremony was held with a Shinto priest blessing the mountain.
After a long wait Grand Hirafu is now scheduled to open this weekend on the 3oth. It looks like the snow is about to return to the region. Blizzard like conditions have been forecast with temperatures dropping rapidly this afternoon and a huge cold front moving into the region.
Mountainwatch have just released their 7 day forecast and we like what we see. For the next 3 days 61cm is predicted to fall in Niseko and 95cm in the next 7 days!
Looks like our daily snow reports will be back in action tomorrow morning.
