Typhoon Number 10 Slams into Niseko

by | Aug 31, 2016 | News | 0 comments

Typhoon season in Japan always brings some drama to an otherwise sleepy mellow summer here in Hokkaido. Usually most Typhoons move up the Pacific coast and then spin off out to sea east of Hokkaido without making landfall. That was not the case with #10. This typhoon crossed over the northern part of Honshu and moved across Hokkaido from south to north.

The Typhoon hit Niseko last night and the strongest part of the storm was between 9pm and 12am lashing the region with extreme winds and torrential rainfall. This morning the damage doesn’t seem too extensive although there are lots of trees down and it looks like local management companies are in for a busy day clearing up the mess! The Typhoon has cause extensive damage across the entire country with 2 deaths recored and major disruptions to public transport.
