TGI Friday, but does it really count when you’re on holiday? Here are some of the things that are happening in Niseko over the next week.
Food
Hokkaidog, that little food van at the top of Hirafu-zaka, sells a mean hot dog. While you could eat your hotdog like a regular schmuck, Hokkaidog are giving people in Niseko the chance to emulate Kobayashi-san with their speed eating prowess. However, unlike Kobayashi who inhaled a mind-blowing 69 hotdogs in 10 minutes, this competition times contestants on how quickly they can eat three hotdogs (or two if you’re of the female variety). Entry is ¥2500 (which, obviously includes three hotdogs) or ¥2000 for the ladies. Hokkaidog have been busy scouring Hirafu for prizes, and their loot bag looks rather impressive. Of course, if you’d prefer just to witness the mess/spectacle, it’s free to spectate. Competition starts from 9PM March 9th at Moon Bar
Competition
Hanazono is having the third of their park competitions this Sunday the 9th of March. The Hanazono Slopestyle competition pits riders against three of the big kickers in the Hanazono park, seeing if they can land three big tricks cleanly. There is a ¥2000 entry (or ¥3000 on the day), with prizes for the different categories (male snowboard, male ski, female snowboard/ski)
Party
In a sight to behold, Half-Note are bringing along a SEVENTEEN PIECE BAND! I can only imagine the sound that they must bring. So, if you’re free Saturday March 8th, head along to Half-Note to check out Solid Sound Jazz Orchestra, which I can only assume is a modest reference to their live performance.
