Niseko Snow Report, 2 February 2023

by | Feb 1, 2023 | 22/23, Snow Reports | 0 comments

*15cm or more has fallen since 06:45 yesterday in Niseko. At 7:45 today the temperature was-5°C. More snow and more wind today. Last night a storm raged so the wind will have moved a lot of snow around. The good news – sweet deep powder stashes. The bad news – the avalanche risk will be high today. Sounding very repetitive but….we look set for another week ahead of continued snowfall and cold temperatures.

Dropping the Microphone

This will be the last 360niseko Snow Report until Feb 15th. After 11 seasons of faithfully recording the snowfall outside our front door on a daily basis the time to abandon our post has arisen. Duty calls and the wild open expanse of Canada’s northern British Columbia is calling. Our friends at Powderlife will be trying to fill in some very big shoes 😉 They will be taking readings and photos from the 360niseko snow station. Don’t expect the reports to drop as early as you may be used to. The longest running daily snow report in Niseko ( not the ruler in the snow type ) is by Snow Japan whose reports are packed with Niseko snowfall information. Sayonara for now.

360niseko Snow Station Readings Disclaimer

The 360niseko’s snow station for the 2022-23 season is in Higashiyama at 200m *The Hirafu Gondola is at 305m. Please be aware that this new reading is NOT in Hirafu village but a few kilometers down the road. There is always a deviation how and where the snow falls – the area is famous for micro climates and mini weather patterns. Some days there may be 10cm in Annupuri and 25cm in Hanazono and vice versa – some days 30cm of fresh snowfall comes down everywhere!! Altitude plays a big part as well so please don’t take the 360niseko snow readings as being definitive – the readings are taken from what is outside our house on the ground.
