Niseko Snow Report, 28 March 2018

by | Mar 28, 2018 | Snow Reports | 0 comments

*0cm has fallen in the last 24 hours in Niseko. At 07:30 today the temperature was 8°C. A warm hazy morning. Powder dreams have actually started to fade away for real this time! Looking outside and at the forecasts it is safe to say March has been a total fizzer for snowfall…can’t even bring ourselves to tally up the accumulative snowfall for March….and i we were hoping for our biggest season since we started taking daily records in the the 2011-12 season. Oh well there is still heaps of snow and lot’s of fun to be had but…. the avalanche risk is extreme today so beware if you are heading into the backcountry – most of the gates are now shut and make sure you read the foreboding Avalanche Report! Oh, and watch out for the yellow snow! The Kousa ( yellow sand ) season is due to start this afternoon with yellow sand particles picked up in the prevailing winds from the Gobi desert in China and deposited on our beautiful snow which potentially may turn everything a yellowish brown. Yep. Bring in your washing this afternoon because it isn’t going to be pretty. Have a good day.

There is always a deviation how and where the snow falls – the area is famous for micro climates and mini weather patterns. Some days there may be 10cm in Annupuri and 25cm in Hanazono and vice versa – some days 30cm of fresh snowfall comes down everywhere!! Altitude plays a big part as well so please don’t take the 360niseko snow readings as being definitive – the readings are what is outside our house on the ground.
