Mt.Yotei Fly By from 360niseko on Vimeo.
After last weeks snowfall at “village” level here in Niseko last Wednesday enthusiasm for the approaching winter season boiled over. Mt.Yotei was beckoning last Saturday and decided to take a hike up the Kimobetsu trail on the east face and made it to around 1450m. From around 700m the snow was ankle deep and from 1000m knee deep – luckily there was a decent boot back to follow. Overall the mission was a success and made it down safety. The weather was brilliant and the views up there were all time 😉
Since the weekend temperatures have been unusually high throughout Japan. Here in Hokkaido we still are yet to record and official snowfall!! By this the JMA ( Japan Meteorological Association ) has not recored snowfall across all of the required locations to create a median reading despite the snowfall in mountainous locations last week. The week ahead is still looking warm so it is unlikely we can expect any snowfall soon so the waiting game continues as does pre season training!!
