Niseko Snow Report, 17 January 2018

by | Jan 17, 2018 | News, Snow Reports | 0 comments

*1cm has fallen in the last 24 hours in Niseko. At 7:00 today the temperature was -6°C. Not too much to get excited about in terms of new snowfall and currently overcast. Hopes are high that the cloud will burn off shortly and this could be THE DAY with fine weather with light winds being the order of the day. Perfect conditions for some early high speed corduroy laps and then a chance to explore Niseko United in clear weather. Make sure your phone is charged and camera ready as today is the day to get the shot GTS! Yotei backdrop shots people – dial them in. We will have to wait another day or so for fresh snowfall that is due to arrive Thursday evening when hopefully snowmageddon hit hard!

Caution is advised on the roads and around town today! After yesterday warmer weather and then a cold evening the roads will be super slippery! As they say here in Hokkaido ( tsuru tsuru chui reberu san desu ) A level 3 warning for slippery conditions is in place!

360niseko Snow Station Readings Disclaimer

The 360niseko now has 2 snow stations for the 2017-18 season in Higashiyama at 200m and 300m *The Hirafu Gondola is at 305m. Please be aware that this new reading is NOT in Hirafu village but a few kilometers down the road. There is always a deviation how and where the snow falls – the area is famous for micro climates and mini weather patterns. Some days there may be 10cm in Annupuri and 25cm in Hanazono and vice versa – some days 30cm of fresh snowfall comes down everywhere!! Altitude plays a big part as well so please don’t take the 360niseko snow readings as being definitive – the readings are what is outside our houses on the ground.
