Niseko Snow Report, 11 December 2017.

by | Dec 11, 2017 | Snow Reports | 0 comments

*0cm has fallen in the last 24 hours in Niseko. At 6:22 am today the temperature was 1.7 °C.

We’re not sure if it was all the kids having a blast at the Rail Jam last night, an incorrect temple entry or just a plain old reality check but this morning at 6.00 light rain is falling and any overnight snow has turned to liquid (well icy liquid on the 360 snow station) and the dream run has drawn to a momentary halt. That’s at 300m though and higher up it would be falling as snow as on average you drop a degree with each 100M of elevation in Niseko .

As the temp drops and the low in the sea of Japan moves north later today the roads are going to get icy, the wind is going to blow (not super hard) and Winter is going to come back, not in a huge way but it will be back, there could even be snowfall by mid morning. It’s the perfect morning to go get equipment tuned, send those emails you have been putting off, fill the windscreen washer tank on the car (Tip: Don’t use water) or even do a load of washing.

To add a little cheer to your morning and put the lack of snow blues in context have a read of a proper hard luck story here  … it will make you smile … a lot.

360niseko Snow Station Readings Disclaimer

The 360niseko now has 2 snow stations for the 2017-18 in Higashiyama at 200m and 300m *The Hirafu Gondola is at 305m. Please be aware that this new reading is NOT in Hirafu village but a few kilometers down the road. There is always a deviation how and where the snow falls – the area is famous for micro climates and mini weather patterns. Some days there may be 10cm in Annupuri and 25cm in Hanazono and vice versa – some days 30cm of fresh snowfall comes down everywhere!! Altitude plays a big part as well so please don’t take the 360niseko snow readings as being definitive – the readings are what is outside our houses on the ground.
