Niseko Snow Report, 31 December 2019

by | Dec 31, 2019 | 19/20, Snow Reports | 0 comments

*0.5cm has fallen in the last 24 hours in Niseko. At 7:15 today the temperature was 1°C. Well the weather is not going to script with a warm southerly wind blowing yesterday and rain hitting us in the afternoon ( Gulp ). It did not get any better through the night with the rain actually getting heavier. Snow has just started falling which is great to see! We have a severe weather warning in place with and expected blizzard due to take effect around midday with expected disruptions to all forms of transport in Hokkaido. The good news? It is going to snow….soon. Conditions on the mountain will be bearable if you fancy some turns on variable wet snow – if so hit it early as the wind will most like close the resorts for the next couple of days is the storm lives up to the hype.

360niseko Snow Station Readings Disclaimer

The 360niseko’s snow station for the 2019-20 season is in Higashiyama at 200m *The Hirafu Gondola is at 305m. Please be aware that this new reading is NOT in Hirafu village but a few kilometers down the road. There is always a deviation how and where the snow falls – the area is famous for micro climates and mini weather patterns. Some days there may be 10cm in Annupuri and 25cm in Hanazono and vice versa – some days 30cm of fresh snowfall comes down everywhere!! Altitude plays a big part as well so please don’t take the 360niseko snow readings as being definitive – the readings are what is outside our house on the ground.
