Hidden away in a sleepy part of middle Hirafu, Yakitori Yamanchu may be one the greatest izakayas that nobody has heard of.
As the name may elude, Yakitori Yamanchu (Yamanchu is written in Japanese as 山人 – literally meaning mountain man) is a yakitori bar, selling delicious skewers of charcoal roasted meat, as well as all the usual izakaya (Japanese bar) favourites, like edamame, gyoza, and Hokkaido’s special fried chicken, zangi.
The food was really delicious, the prices were reasonable and the service was perfect, so it was puzzling why on a night that most of the other bars and restaurants in town were full, Yakitori Yamanchu was nearly empty. One can only guess it is because it is relatively new and unknown, because there was certainly nothing but praise for dinner.
Do your tastebuds a favour and try Yakitori Yamanchu some time and see if you agree.
